"Every Child Can Learn: Advocating for Inclusive Classrooms in Plateau State"
At GlowingStar Empowerment Initiative and Development, we believe that every child deserves a seat in the classroom — regardless of their ability.
Unfortunately, thousands of children with special needs in Nigeria, especially in Plateau State, are still left behind due to rigid, non-inclusive education policies and practices.
“Every Child Can Learn” is our policy advocacy project designed to drive meaningful reform in Nigeria’s basic education system — starting right here in Plateau State. This initiative pushes for the full integration of inclusive education policies at both state and local levels, ensuring that children with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other special needs are not just admitted to schools, but are supported to thrive.
To influence policy frameworks and institutional practices that guarantee the right to inclusive, equitable, and quality education for children with special needs in Plateau State.
Policy Reform: Advocate for the revision and implementation of state-level education policies to reflect the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and Nigeria’s National Policy on Inclusive Education.
Budget Inclusion: Lobby for increased budgetary allocation for inclusive learning materials, teacher training, and school infrastructure upgrades.
Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate dialogue between government, school leaders, teachers, parents, and children with disabilities to co-create inclusive solutions.
Awareness and Sensitization: Run targeted campaigns to educate communities on the importance of inclusive education and reduce stigma toward children with disabilities.
Monitoring and Accountability: Work with school boards and education ministries to track and report on progress toward inclusion targets.
In Plateau State, many public schools lack trained special education teachers, accessible infrastructure, or support tools like braille materials, sign language interpreters, or assistive technology. Through this project, GlowingStar aims to break down these barriers so that every child, regardless of their special needs, is empowered to reach their full potential.
