"Access 4 All: Breaking Barriers to Inclusive Education in Nigeria"
Access 4 All is a policy advocacy project designed to tackle the systemic barriers that prevent children with disabilities from accessing quality, inclusive education in Nigeria. It shines a spotlight on the urgent need for policy reform, infrastructure adaptation, and educator training to ensure that no child is left behind, regardless of physical, intellectual, or developmental challenges.
The project involves evidence-based advocacy, strategic engagement with education policymakers, community sensitization, and coalition-building with stakeholders to push for inclusive policies at both the state and national levels.
To drive policy change that guarantees equal access to inclusive, quality education for children with disabilities in Nigeria, starting from Plateau State.
Policy Reform:
Advocate for the review and enforcement of Nigeria’s Universal Basic Education and National Policy on Inclusive Education, ensuring they are disability-responsive and action-oriented.
School Infrastructure Advocacy:
Campaign for the adaptation of public schools (e.g., ramps, tactile signage, assistive devices) to be accessible to children with diverse disabilities.
Capacity Building:
Lobby for teacher training on inclusive teaching methods and disability awareness, including sign language, braille, and behavioral support strategies.
Budget Advocacy:
Push for increased state and federal budgetary allocations toward inclusive education.
Community Mobilization:
Create awareness and mobilize parents, school authorities, and local leaders to support the educational rights of children with special needs.
In Plateau State and across Nigeria, thousands of children with disabilities remain invisible in the education system—excluded from classrooms, curricula, and opportunities. Access 4 All believes that education is a right, not a privilege, and works to transform that belief into legislative and practical reality.
